UNBLOCK DRAINS AT HOME – METRO ROD COVENTRY

Trying to unblock drains yourself can seem like a mammoth task, especially when you don’t know what you’re doing. Metro Rod Coventry want to make this a bit easier for you so you can carry on with your day as planned. Here are our three tips for clearing a blocked drain.

It is important to remember that when trying to unblock drains you should try and be as protected as possible from any germs that may be lingering around. We recommend wearing long rubber gloves, glasses or goggles to protect your eyes, and placing some newspaper on the floors to help protect them.

#1 Bent Wire Hanger

If you have a wire clothes hanger, try straightening it out as much as you can, and creating a hook which you can then feed down the drain and fish out whatever is causing the blockage. You’ve got to be a bit careful when trying this as you don’t want to be pushing the blockage further down the drain. When you think you’ve got out as much as you can run the hot water and hopefully you will notice a difference and it will be draining much better.

#2 Boiling Water

Boiling water can be very useful to try and dislodge the build-up of fat, oil and grease when trying to unblock drains. By pouring small amounts of boiling water slowly down the drain you will help soften up the mass and allow it to be washed out.

#3 Baking Soda and Vinegar

To unblock drains using these two simple household products, simply pour a cup of the baking soda down the drain, followed by a cup of vinegar and a cup of hot water. You should see or hear a fizzing reaction taking place, this means it’s working so cover the drain for about an hour. After waiting, pour some boiling water down the drain to help flush this blockage out, you should see that it is draining better now.

If you try any of these methods to unblock drains and you still can't get things moving, then it may mean there is something blocking you drains that you wont be able to move, like tree roots. Don’t worry though as Metro Rod Coventry are available 24/7 to help you find a solution to your drainage problems.
