A GUIDE TO COMMON DRAIN PROBLEMS – METRO ROD BIRMINGHAM

We rely on our drains every day, but a number of things can go wrong so it’s worth knowing what to look out for so you can be prepared.

When you have a problem with your drains it is often a worrying time and you’ll need to call out a professional to fix it ASAP. If you know what the problem is it can help speed the process up a bit, so Metro Rod Birmingham have put together this list of the most common problems to help you spot what is wrong.

Blocked Drains

A blocked drain us a common occurrence for any property, whether its a sink or toilet or an outside drain. If the water is just sitting there and not draining away, then you most likely have a blocked drain. There are a couple of things you can attempt yourself to clear the blockage, such as using a plunger, baking soda and vinegar and boiling water, you can read more about these options here.

Leaking Pipes

When a pipe is leaking you’ll want it fixed as soon as possible to prevent flooding and water damage to your property. If the leak is in a reachable area you can place a bucket or tub to collect the water to help prevent damage, but if this is not possible you’ll have a slightly bigger problem on your hands. Until one of our engineers can take a look for you, you can try using some leak-proof tape or epoxy putting as a temporary solution.

Leaky and Blocked Toilet

Another common problem which can cause people to panic is a blocked or leaking toilet. If you flush the toilet and the water rises or you can hear strange gurgling noises then there is probably a leak or blockage. For a leak you will need to contact Metro Rod who will be able to find a solution to get things working again. If you suspect it is blocked you can try moving whatever is blocking it by using a plunger. If you know that a toiletry bottle or toy accidentally fell into the toilet you can try reaching into the toilet whilst wearing gloves, to pull it out. If this is not possible then you’ll need the help of Metro Rod Birmingham.
