HALLOWEEN EDITION: THE SCARY THINGS DOWN YOUR DRAINS – METRO ROD COVENTRY

Blocked drains and pipes are one of the most common problems we deal with as a drainage company. So it is not surprising that a great number of interesting and weird things have been found in drains across the country, and we are going to share with you our favourite weird and scary finds.

  1. You may be shocked to hear that in some London sewers, some workers actually found half a car! Now Minis have a reputation for being small and compact but we bet you didn’t think they would be small enough to fit into a sewer. We have no idea how half of a Mini came to be stuck in a sewer, but it must have been quite a shock to find down there.
  2. In Surrey some drainage engineers found an unlikely resident in the drains, a sheep! It had clearly wandered off from the rest and had managed to make its way into the drains to live. It was healthy and alone and was soon reunited with the rest of the flock. It’s not every day we find a sheep down the drain.
  3. In Shropshire, Severn Trent Water found a number of large Piranha fish in the sewers, the exotic fish seems to have been flushed down the drain by a resident of the area. It was only discovered after a member of the public reported a strong fishy smell coming from down the drains. Considering each fish was about 10 inches long it is quite surprising that they managed to get down the drains at all.
  4. Somewhere a little further a field - in Las Vegas, a city where you can just about find anything, it was discovered that around 1000 people had made a home for themselves in the drains. The homeless community that are now living there have collected unwanted furniture and created a way of life for themselves down there. However, we wouldn’t recommend doing as not only is it very unhygienic, but there is a big risk of flooding which could jeopardise them all.
