Blocked sinks and drains can ruin your day, but with this guide for home remedies we can help put an end to that.
If you have a blocked sink or drain you’ll want to sort it as quickly as possible to keep your day uninterrupted so here at Metro Rod Bristol we would like to guide you through some of the home remedies to unblock your sinks and drains.
We would like to remind you that when dealing with block sinks and drains it’s important to stay protected from any germs that may be lingering. It’s good to wear long rubber gloves and any glasses or goggles as well as putting down some newspaper or old towels you don’t mind potentially ruining.
The bent wire hanger
If you take a wire clothes hanger and straighten it out as much as you can, then using the hook end you can try fishing out whatever gunk is causing the blockage in your sink or drain. Remember to be careful as you do this, as you don’t want to be pushing the blockage further down the drain. When you think you’ve got as much out as you can, run the hot water and hopefully it will drain as normal.
Boiling water
Boiling water can be especially useful to help dislodge the build up of fat, oil and grease. By pouring small amounts of boiling water continuously down the drain you can help soften up the solid mass so that it can then be flushed through. It’s important to pour the boiling water slowly and in stages to allow it to work, and not just build up.
Baking soda and vinegar
A classic home remedy for a blocked sink or drain is baking soda and vinegar. First pour a cup of baking soda down the drain, followed by 1 cup of vinegar and 1 cup of hot water, it should start fizzing straight away so cover the plughole and leave it to react for about an hour. Then pour some boiling water down the drain to help flush it through, you should notice the sink or drain draining a lot better now.
