Metro Rod Edinburgh are here 24/7 to help you unblock drains, whether it’s a blocked toilet, sink or waste pipe we are fully equipped to get your drain flowing nicely again.
Metro Rod Edinburgh offer a couple of different solutions to help unblock drains, high-pressure water jetting and electro-mechanical cleaning are our most effect options when it comes to big blockages.
The high-pressure water jetting is our preferred method for unblocking drains as it provides a longterm solution to the problem. It works by firing highly pressurised water towards the blockage within the confines of drain. This force breaks up what is blocking the drain and can then be washed through.
Electro-mechanical cleaning uses a motorised tool to rotate a spring or cable on the inside which is then fed into the blocked drain where the tool rotates and consequently breaks up the mass causing the blockage into smaller pieces to then be flushed through.
There are a couple of things you can try yourself to get a blockage moving using basic household items.
-
- Baking soda and Vinegar - Start by pouring boiling water down the problem drain. Then pour a cup of baking soda down the drain, followed by 1 cup water and 1 cup vinegar, cover the drain with the plug and wait for between 5-10 minutes. Then pour boiling water down the drain again. The reaction from the baking soda and vinegar helps loosen what is clogging the drain, and then the boiling water helps to push it out.
If your toilet doesn’t flush properly the first or second time, then don’t try again as chances are you have a blockage and you don’t want to make it worse or risk flooding. To protect yourself from any germs around the toilet when trying to unblock it. It’s good to wear some protective gear such as long rubber gloves and goggles and glasses. It’s also wise to put down some newspaper or old towels you don’t mind ruining to help protect the floors.
If you do know what is blocking the toilet, for example a bar of soap fell in, or a child's toy, then you can try reaching in whilst wearing the gloves to pull it out.
You can also try using a plunger and placing it completely over the hole and gently pushing and pulling on it to dislodge what is in the way.
If these methods don’t work and you still have a blocked drain then don’t worry as Metro Rod will be able to help you.
