The Bin Don’t Flush Guide

The Bin Don’t Flush Guide

The Three "P's" Rule..

Blocked drains and toilets can be very unpleasant but can be avoided by ensuring you only flush the three P’s – Pee, Poo and Paper (toilet). However, the misconception that your loo is a waste bin continues to contribute to the 300,000 sewer blockages that occur every year.

Top Of The Naughty List..

The biggest culprit when it comes to blockages is the innocent looking wet wipe.  Yes, they’re handy, clean and used by countless households across the UK. BUT they don’t belong in your loo!  Despite some manufacturers claiming they are flushable, there is only one place for a used wet wipe and that is the bin.  Over 90% of blockages are caused by wet wipes and they are a major contributor to “Fat Bergs”.  The recently discovered fat berg at Sidmouth is in the region of 210-foot-long and is going to take about 8 weeks to be cleared.  That gives a hint at the scale of damage they cause.

Another reason to think twice about flushing wet wipes is one simple word – rats. Rats LOVE wet wipes in drains.  They make excellent nesting materials for these rodents, so they will quickly make your drains a comfy home for their families.  And, when you consider that rats can produce up to 2,000 of-spring a year that can result in some serious vermin issues.

More Troublemakers..

So, having established that your loo is not a magic portal for wet wipe disposal, here are some of the other items we find blocking loo’s…

  • Cotton Buds
  • Sanitary Items
  • Tissues
  • Medications
  • Fats & Oils
  • Condoms
  • Hair
  • Dental Floss

When Things Go Wrong..

We are of course here 24/7 to deal with blocked drains and toilets, it’s what we do.  However, if you follow our “bin don’t flush” guide we hope to help you avoid the inconvenience caused by blocked drains.
