WHAT YOU DO IF YOU DROP SOMETHING DOWN THE DRAIN – METRO ROD STOKE

Dropped something down the drain and need it back and don’t want it blocking up your pipes? Then this is the guide for you.

Waste trap

At some point over our lives we’ll all drop something down a drain, whether its a ring down the sink or a child accidentally flushing their toy down the toilet, you’ll need to know the best way to retrieve it and prevent your drains from clogging up.

Item in the toilet

If you’ve accidentally dropped something down the toilet, put on some gloves and try reaching in to pull it out. It is is out of reach, try using a plunger to dislodge it. Place the plunger fully over the hole and gently push and pull while maintaining the seal, and you should find it is dislodged.

Step 1:

First things first you’re going to need to turn off the water to make sure it doesn’t get washed further through the drains to a place you can no longer reach. You’re going to need some rubber gloves, old newspaper on the floor, a basin or bowl and a pair of slip joint pliers. You’ll need the gloves because theres a big chance you’ll have to look through some pretty gross gunk from your pipes.

Step 2:

Then place the basin or bowl under the P-trap and get the pliers to carefully loosen the lower slip joint so you can remove the P-trap. After that, slide it up so you can also loosen the upper slip joint to fully remove the P-trap, but be careful as this is where you’ll encounter the gunk.

Step 3:

You’ll have to now tip out all the gunk that was sitting in the P-trap and go through it to hopefully find whatever you dropped down the drain. It’s also a good idea while the P-trap is missing to clean up the pipes to reduce any future blockages.

If you can’t find what you lost down the drain and it starts to cause an issue and block the flow of water then Metro Rod Stoke will be able to help you. We have a few different methods for solving a blocked drain which are highly effective and will remove the hole blockage so you don't have to worry about it repeating again.
