From Customer Service to Business Ownership
Before Metro Rod, I spent 17 years at BT as a Customer Service Manager and Trainer. I had always wanted to run my own business, and I saw Metro Rod as an opportunity in an industry that would always be in demand.
Facing Challenges as a Woman in Business
I’ve often been overlooked when with a male employee, particularly in the early days of my career with Metro Rod. But I never let it bother me, I would simply and clearly point out who I am.
Inspired by Strong Women
I’ve drawn inspiration from other women in this business who have been incredibly successful, juggling family, work, and a social life with great balance. Their determination and resilience have been motivating.
A Career Highlight to Remember
“One of my proudest achievements was winning the HSBC Franchisee of the Year award, beating major brands like McDonald's. That recognition was an incredible moment. But beyond awards, I take pride in the strong team we’ve built at Metro Rod North East. I love seeing my employees grow, take on new responsibilities, and develop their careers with us. Providing stability and security for them is something I truly value.”
Changing the Industry for Women
“There are no limits to what a woman can achieve, the only barrier is her own lack of confidence. I hope my journey shows that women can thrive in this industry, and I encourage more to take the leap”.
Advice for Women Aspiring to become Leaders
“Go for it! This is a fantastic industry to be involved in, and I would recommend it to anyone. Believe in yourself, and don’t let doubts hold you back”. Tricia Craig
Success and Life
“Balance to me is everything, success is fulfilment and happiness. I love what I do, and it allows me to enjoy a great social life outside of work. Having that balance is key”.
The Most Powerful Lesson Learned
“I’m great in a crisis, I can manage any situation, whatever it is. I might never have realised this if I hadn’t taken on the challenge of running my own business. One employee recently told me, ‘It’s scary how calm you stay.’ That made me laugh out loud!”
Final Thoughts
“Taking on this business has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. Women are needed in this industry, and I hope to see more stepping into leadership roles with confidence”
