Metro Rod Performs Drain Survey in Liverpool’s Strawberry Fields

Drain Survey in Liverpool's Strawberry Fields

Being based in Liverpool Metro Rod do quite often come across Beatles references in a lot of our daily work (like dealing with a 'Norwegian Flood' or 'Penny Drain' for example!) but we were thrilled to be asked to carry out a drain survey on the actual Strawberry Fields site for a local contractor recently!

Perhaps best known by the 1967 Beatles Song, 'Strawberry Fields' (have a listen here: https://youtu.be/HtUH9z_Oey8 ) was a Salvation Army Children's home in Woolton, Liverpool, from 1936 until it finally closed in 2005.  The famous gates have become a pilgrimage site for Beatles fans from across the world.  Currently though visitors are unable to get beyond the gates, the site is completely locked down.

Inside the gates there are still a lot of echoes of the site's former life as a Children's Home such as climbing frames, slides and children's toys.

The site is being redeveloped as an exhibition centre, gift shop, a café and a new training and work placement hub for young people with learning disabilities (more information on which can be found at www.strawberryfieldliverpool.com). Work is due to be completed by July 2019.

Metro Rod were called in to unblock some drainage on the site and to provide a drain survey to ascertain the condition of the drains prior to works starting properly later on in the year.  Chris Hawkins, one of the operatives who was on site said "Being able to go onto this site to carry out the drain survey was really interesting, really good, everyone in Liverpool has obviously heard of Strawberry Fields and to go into site to carry out works felt really special, a real privilege".

Jenny Schofield, Business Development Manager at Metro Rod in Liverpool said "We carried out the drainage works on site quickly and to a great standard and hope to be involved with the project further as works progress - what a treat to be asked onto such an iconic site!"
