Metro Rod Cumbria’s Civils Team
At Metro Rod Cumbria, we have a dedicated civils team. Our civils engineers plan, design and oversee the implementation of building and ground infrastructures, making way for new drainage and sewage systems to be fitted.
Our work in civils includes the installation of pump and sewage treatment plants, installation of construction piling in deep foundations and repairs of underground drain components such as raising mains.
Recent work includes installing a large pump station for a care home, who previously were struggling with repeated pump failures from their existing system. As the care home’s drains are located at a lower level than the main sewer line, the pump is an essential piece of their water and waste management, allowing wastewater to be pumped up to reach the main sewer line and be carried away from the property.
Installation of a new pump station
During the work, the pump station was moved to a new location to allow for a larger pump to be installed. This was a bespoke design to suit the care home’s requirements.

Our Work on Railways
Culvert Cleaning:
Blocked culverts underneath a railway can result in track damage and flooding in adverse weather. To eliminate these risks of disruption to the railway, Metro Rod Cumbria operate 24/7 to ensure drain maintenance can be done out of hours when the railway is not in use.

When carrying out culvert cleaning, our fleet of 26 tonne Kilo-Whale jet-vac tankers is always made available to ensure we can empty the culvert of any foul waste before the cleaning process begins. Once emptied, high-pressure water jetting and other drain cleaning methods are used to clean and clear the culvert of any debris.
Culvert inspections:
Inspecting a culvert is vital to prevent unexpected problems from damaged pipes, debris and build-up of silt. This becomes more important after extreme storm events or new developments. At Metro Rod Cumbria, we use the latest camera technology and crawlers to inspect culverts, identifying any damage and silt build-up. By inspecting culverts regularly, we can ensure any areas of concern are dealt with immediately and prevent unexpected problems such as flooding.
